Getting started with OB Conferencing (and Webinars): new users start here.
Welcome to OceanBrowser conferencing. This page is the right place to start if you are a new user getting started with conferencing.
OceanBrowser supports two types of conferences: audio conferences, and webinars.
An audio conference connects all participants in a room and shares voice. You can connect via traditional phone, or via the internet (using the OceanBrowser web phone - explained further below). A webinar adds screen sharing of visual materials so that the presenter can for example share a powerpoint presentation with conference participants.
Unless your teacher advises you in advance that your event is to be a webinar, you can assume your conference event is an audio conference.
Audio conferences and webinars both use the same "room" for the audio component of the conference. So if you are attending a webinar, you can use an ordinary phone to connect to the audio component of the webinar. This is covered further below.
Please see the following help topics for getting started with audio conferencing and connecting to the audio conference room:
- Connecting to an audio conference via phone
- Connecting to an audio conference via your computer (using the OceanBrowser web phone)

If you are attending a webinar you may also additionally using the in-built Flash web phone in the webinar system (see below) which also connects to the same room for the audio component of the conference.
You can think of webinars as an "enhanced" audio conference which adds visuals. The webinar uses the same "room" for audio conferences, so you can still connect to the audio side of the conference using a normal telephone, while view the webinar in your browser, if you so wish.
